I’m not 100% on the details, but it seems the Ford Kuga, a small SUV made by Ford in South Africa ha s the distinction of bursting into flame. Probably not an option you check off the list when you are buying your new car. Any SA oppos care to chime in here on what you’ve heard? I only know about it because of some friends I have that live there and in Botswana and they’ve been taking about it. Should this story make the front page (if it hasn’t already, I rarely go there) remember, you heard it here first!....unless you didn’t.

Looking at this Facebook page.

There have been quite a few with one gentleman, Jimmy, burning in his car. They say, ‘We hold Ford South Africa and Ford UK responsible for the death of Reshall Jimmy ’
Not sure where Ford U.K comes in as they are made in Spain, China, Russia and the U.S. Maybe it’s the 1.6 engine that’s built in Wales I don’t know.

I think it’s only the 1.6 petrol turbo, which may well be from Bridgend as they do petrol units.
Best stick to diesels then.

there were reports of the Escape catching fire as well few years back. maybe some cost cutting got them to use the faulty design?

I’ve asked Wiki and it seems that all of the 1.6 Ecoboost engines are from the same plant, Bridgend in Wales. Other sizes come from other places around the world.
I live where Kugas are diesel-only so I’ve never come across this fire issue.
